Writers' Workshop, April 9, 2011
Over 30 writers attended the two-hour instructional session on memoir writing with Ed Griffin. In preparation for the event, members of the Langley Writers' Guild were challenged to write a piece related to aviation or the metaphor of flight. After Ed's session, the attendees were served coffee and home-baked cookies, and enjoyed the guild readings. Marshall Cronkite read a humorous and profound piece about his experience as a young recruit with the RCAF.
The flight museum venue was well received as many had never been to the museum before and enjoyed looking at the hangar aircraft and displays.
At the conclusion of the event the attendees expressed a strong desire for more intensive workshops at the museum involving all writing genres. One future workshop being discussed is "Love is in the Air." We hope to procure the services of a well-known local writer and representative from Harlequin Romance. It would be an all-day instructional session, followed by a hands-on worshop, and will be offered to the general public and the myriad of writing groups in the lower mainland.
The Langley Writers' Guild welcomes new members to their instructional sessions and critiques. For more information, phone Carla at 604-308-7559.
